Instead of relying on a standard open addition, the design carefully updates the original footprint while introducing a light-filled modern extension.The tour highlights the restored heritage home, where original rooms now accommodate quiet areas, including bedrooms, a dedicated music space with vinyl turntables and an internal wall opening, and a compact study nook carved directly out of an original room. Transitioning into the new addition, reclaimed brick floor surfaces incorporating salvaged materials from the existing site create a natural connection between the interior and exterior garden spaces.
Key features include tailored timber joinery, a concealed bathtub oriented toward a private courtyard oasis, and a dining area angled precisely to capture northern sun exposure. In the living room, timber cabinetry reveals a hidden, integrated heating panel to keep the space comfortable without unsightly hardware. Upstairs, a children's bedroom makes efficient use of vertical volume with a lofted bed, overhead net lounge, and built-in storage solutions. With integrated heating solutions, high-volume storage, and clever architectural detailing throughout, Erindale House demonstrates how small-footprint design can yield flexible, light-rich spaces without compromising historical context.
