Brunswick Street House
Brunswick Street House
The dense inner-city context in this prized parkside area meant the open space at the rear of this nineteenth-century terrace was dwarfed by neighbouring homes. To respond to this density without sacrificing the open layout desired by our clients a ‘big square tree’ was created- planted out with hardy native creepers to cover the second storey with a living, spreading canopy.
The least structure possible was employed at ground level, creating an open flowing space which integrates with the backyard seamlessly. The canopy of the tree is denser and more private, housing the master bedroom among the green growth and screens in response to council regulations regarding overlooking and privacy.
Climb through the canopy and find yourself on top of the tree with views to the city skyline and distant mountains.
